17 Ways to Decorate Your Sportswear
Each method has its own look, feel and best use. Many orders combine several: a sublimated jersey body with appliqué numbers, or an embroidered hat alongside a screen-printed hoodie. Not sure which to choose? Send us your design and we will recommend the best method for your garment, quantity and budget.
Sublimation printing
Ink is turned into gas and bonded into polyester fibers, so all-over designs, gradients and photos become part of the fabric. It will not crack, peel or fade, and there is no limit on colors.
Best for: Full jerseys, shorts and all-over designs
Screen printing
Bold, solid-color graphics pushed through a mesh screen. A cost-effective choice for simple logos, numbers and larger runs on cotton and blends.
Best for: Bold logos on T-shirts and hoodies
Embroidery
Stitched logos and crests with a classic, premium finish. Ideal for polos, jackets, hats and bags.
Best for: Polos, jackets, hats and bags
3D embroidery
Raised (puff) embroidery built over foam for logos that stand out, especially popular on snapback and trucker hats.
Best for: Caps and premium raised logos
DTF printing
Direct-to-film transfers for detailed, full-color artwork on cotton, polyester and blends, with good stretch.
Best for: Detailed full-color logos
DTG printing
Direct-to-garment printing for photographic, multi-color designs on cotton garments.
Best for: Photo-quality prints on cotton tees
Heat transfer vinyl (HTV)
Cut vinyl pressed onto the garment. The go-to method for individual player names and numbers.
Best for: Names, numbers and small runs
Silicone printing
A raised, rubbery print with a soft premium feel, often used for logos on performance wear.
Best for: Soft, rubbery logos on performance wear
Puff printing
Ink that expands under heat to create a raised, textured print.
Best for: Raised, retro-style graphics
Reflective printing
Prints that reflect light for visibility in low light, useful for cycling, running and outerwear.
Best for: Visibility on outerwear and cycling kit
Appliqué
Fabric shapes stitched onto the garment for layered letters, numbers and logos.
Best for: Classic stitched numbers and letters
Sublimated twill
Twill letters and numbers printed with your design and stitched on, combining the look of twill with unlimited colors.
Best for: Lightweight numbers with a stitched look
Woven patches
Finely woven badges with sharp detail, sewn or heat-applied.
Best for: Fine detail on hats, bags and jackets
Rubber patches
Durable 3D rubber (PVC) patches for jackets, bags and hats.
Best for: Durable 3D logos on hats and bags
Chenille patches
Textured, varsity-style patches for letterman and team jackets.
Best for: Letterman-style letters and patches
Laser cutting
Precision-cut details, perforations and shapes for a modern performance look.
Best for: Perforations and cut-out details
Rhinestone application
Sparkling rhinestone designs, popular for cheerleading uniforms and fan wear.
Best for: Cheer and dance sparkle
Choosing a method
Which Decoration Method Is Right for You?
Full team uniforms
Sublimation is usually the best value for jerseys, shorts and motocross gear. Colors, stripes, sponsor logos and graphics cost the same whether your design is simple or complex.
Names and numbers
HTV and sublimated twill are the most common choices. With sublimation, names and numbers can also be printed directly into the fabric.
Hats, polos and jackets
Embroidery and 3D embroidery give a premium, long-lasting finish. Patches work well on hats, bags and outerwear.
Cotton tees and hoodies
Screen printing suits simple designs; DTF and DTG handle detailed, full-color artwork.
Fan wear and cheer
Rhinestones, chenille patches and puff printing add texture and shine that stand out in the stands.
Night and road visibility
Reflective printing adds safety for cycling, running and outdoor jackets.
