Custom Labels and Hang Tags: A Branding Checklist for Your Sportswear Line

A jersey or hoodie becomes a brand product the moment it carries your label and hang tag. Customers notice these small details, and they remember the name on them when it is time to reorder.

This checklist walks you through everything to prepare before you order branded sportswear: your logo file, the right label, hang tag design, packaging and the mistakes that cost new brands time.

Custom labels and hang tags – a branding checklist for your sportswear line

Your branding options

At FJ Sportswear you can add any mix of these to each order:

  • Woven labels: your logo woven into a fabric label
  • Printed labels: your logo printed on a soft label
  • Hang tags: card tags in your own design
  • Custom poly bags: bags with your branding

FJ branding is not required anywhere, so your customers see only your brand.

The branding checklist

Sportswear branding checklist: logo file, woven or printed label, hang tag design, custom poly bags, consistent look, quantities per design, sample before bulk, no FJ branding required

1. Get your logo file ready

Send the clearest version of your logo you have, ideally the original design file. A blurry screenshot or a small image makes a blurry label.

2. Choose woven or printed labels

3. Design your hang tag

A hang tag is often the first thing a customer reads. Keep it simple:

  • Your brand name and logo
  • The product name or style
  • Your website, if you sell online
  • Space for a size or price sticker, if your shop uses them

4. Decide on poly bags early

Branded poly bags make each piece look ready to sell and help if you ship to customers directly. Decide on them when you order, not after bulk production is finished.

5. Keep the same look everywhere

Use the same logo version and colours on labels, tags and bags across your whole range. Consistency is what makes a small brand look established.

6. Plan branding for every design

Tell us which designs need which labels, tags and bags. Our minimum is 10 pieces per design, and those pieces can be in mixed sizes or colours.

7. Check it on a sample

Before you commit to bulk, ask to see your branding on a paid sample. Samples take about 3 weeks.

8. Confirm no factory branding

If you sell under your own name, make sure your factory does not add its own labels. At FJ Sportswear, our branding is not required anywhere.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Sending a low-quality logo file
  • Putting too much text on a small label
  • Using different logo versions on labels and tags
  • Leaving packaging until the last minute
  • Skipping the sample on your first branded order
